Gladstone Girls Take Care Of Business; Esky Next
ESCANABA---The Gladstone Major Little League All-Star softball team eliminated the Norway All-Stars, 11-0, in five innings Thursday night in Escanaba, setting up another showdown with Escanaba in the district final. Lauren Pare continued her strong pitching, throwing four shutout innings for the victory. She struck out eleven of the twelve outs she recorded, and Tiahna Reynolds threw the fifth inning. Malia Quigley kept a hot bat at the plate, bringing home a run with a base hit in the fourth inning, and then ending the game with a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning. Leadoff batter Emma Trombley had three hits and scored twice, and Ava Goodman had a base hit, sacrifice bunt, two walks, and scored three Gladstone runs. Molly Matthews contributed a single and an RBI double, Norway did not get a base hit in the ballgame. Chloe Chartier and Emily Trombowski drew walks and were the only two baserunners in the contest. Gladstone and Escanaba will decide the district championship on Friday. If Escanaba wins the 5:00 game, then the Orange and Black will play in teh state tournament in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe. If Gladstone wins, then the two teams will play again at 7:00 in a winner-take-all district championship game. |
