BYRON TWP.---
The Norway Junior Little League All-Stars went 2-1 in their pool play games at the State Tournament in Byron TWP. Norway beat Grant 10-3 on Sunday and on Monday split two games, winning 11-6 against Grant and losing 11-0 against Clare.

Against Grant on Sunday, Grant scored six runs in the second inning to fuel their victory. Aurora McCarthy, JoJo Seidel, and Kara Stanchina collected multiple hits for Norway in the win. Stanchina led the team with six RBI. Norway turned up the pressure on the basepaths stealing bases and taking advantage of the defense. The final score of the game was a 10-3 win for Norway.

On Monday Norway took on the hosts Byron, and again used a big second inning to jump start their win. After scoring one run in the first inning Norway tallied five runs in the second and three more in the fourth to open up a 9-0 lead. Byron scored three runs of their own in the fourth and tacked on three more down the stretch, but it was not enough. Norway added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh to win 11-6.

Anna DeBidart, Myah Gilroy, and McCarthy all had RBIs in the big second inning. Emma Dube had two RBI on a single in the fourth inning to extend the lead. Seidel pitched the entire game for Norway.

Clare was dominant in pool play winning their three games by a combined score of 54-0. Myah Gilroy had the only hit for Norway in a complete game shutout for Madison Jones. The final line for Jones was five innings pitched with one hit, two walks, and twelve strikeouts. Elesia Swieg pitched for Norway and lasted the complete game.

Norway advances to play in the state quarterfinal games on Tuesday.
