GLADSTONE---The Escanaba Minor Little League All-Stars (age 9-10) advanced to the district championship game Friday night with a 22-1 win over Norway at Gladstone High School. Gladstone is hosting the state tournament next week, and because District 3 (Jackson) and Distrrict 12 (Muskegon) are not sending teams, Escanaba, Norway, and Gladstone are all in the state tournament. Marquette is as well, as the District Eleven champions. Escanaba scored six runs in the first inning, sending ten batters to the plate. They added six more in the second inning, before Norway scored its only run when Aubree Lapine scored from third base on a wild pitch. Kinsely Williams had three hits and scored three times for Escanaba. Ava Johnson had three hits as well (two singles and a double), Gabby Parlato had two hits and scored twice, and Braelyn Granchamp added a triple at the plate. Granchamp was the winning pitcher, allowing only one base hit, to Aleese Stage. Escanaba also played some good defense, with second baseman Adelynn Humbert getting a 4-3 double play on a ground ball, and Jackson had a nice defensive play at first base. |
