Escanaba Girls Advance To District Title Game 10-5

ESCANABA---The Escanaba Major Little League All-Stars (age 11-12) advanced to the District Ten championship game on Wednesday with a 10-5 win over Gladstone at Escanaba's Lemmerand Park. Gladstone took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Emma Trombley walked and scored on a triple by Malia Quigley. Quigley scored on a fly ball off the bat of Lauren Pare. The Purple and White took a 3-0 lead in the third inning when Aubrey Gereau singled and Quigley eventually drove in Trombley with a double. Escanaba aded four more runs in the top of the sixth inning, with Derkos singling home one run, Avery Fisher getting a run-scoring hit, and Jacobsen smacked a two-run double. Gladstone got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth on RBI doubles by Quigley and by Reese Buckle, but Escanaba pitcher Sophie Hill was able to get the final put to end the game. Quigley ended up getting two doubles and a triple, driving in three runs for Gladstone. Parlato had two hits and drove in three runs for Escanaba. Derkos, Fisher, and Jaconsen all had two base hits in the Escanaba victory. Escanaba will play in the district championship game Friday night, while Gladstone will take on Norway in the loser's bracket final Thursday nigt at 6:00. The winner of the tournament advances to the state tournament next weekend in downstate Grosse Pointe. |
