Escanaba 9-10 Boys Crush Menominee For District
![]() ESCANABA---The Escanaba 9-10 boys baseball team followed up its Yooper Tournament championship with a district title on Friday. The boys pounded Menominee, 18-1, at Lemmerand Park, to earn a spot in the state tournament in Grand Rapids. Escanaba trailed, 1-0, after the first inning, but scored five runs in the second inning to take command. Escanaba added four runs in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to 9-1, and then in the fifth, the boys pounded a depleted Menominee team for nine more. Casey Bray earned the pitching win on the mound for Escanaba. Bray also contributed with the bat, getting three base hits and scoring two runs. Nathan Howes also had a big game at the plate. He had a single, triple, and a walk. And he scored two runs. Jaeger LaMarch also had a big night with a single, double, three walks, and three walks scored. Also on Friday, in the northern U.P., Portage Lake out of Houghton beat Negaunee, 12-2. Those two teams will play again on Saturday at 4:00 in L'Anse to see which U.P. team will join Escanaba in the 16-team state tournament later this month in Grand Rapids. ![]() |
