Eskymo Girls Rally Past Gladstone To Win District
![]() ESCANABA---The Escanaba 9-10 Girls Little League All-Star team got a good pitching performance from Emily Moore and beat Gladstone, 5-3, to win the District Ten championship Tuesday night at Lemmerand Park. Escanaba advances to host the sectionals against District Eleven champion Penokee Range out of the Ironwood area. Penokee Range topped Keweenaw, 14-4, in their championship game Tuesday night. The sectional tournament winner advances to represent the Upper Peninsula at the state tournament later this month in downstate Tecumseh. Gladstone scored two runs in the top of the first inning before Escanaba scored once in the bottom of the inning. Escanaba tied the game in the second inning, but Lauren Bell's RBI hit gave Gladstone a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning. But Escanaba took advantage of errors and walks to score twice in the fourth inning and one more run in the fifth. That was enough for Moore, who threw all six innings for Escanaba. She allowed just three hits, and just one of the three runs against her were earned runs. Moore walked five batters and struck out six. Gladstone pitcher Cecilia Pilon allowed just four base hits, and two of the five runs against her were unearned. Pilon walked seven and struck out seven along the way. The Escanaba vs Penokee Range sectional is scheduled for next Tuesday, July 22, and Wednesday, July 23, at Lemmerand Park. Both games will be played at 6:00 ET/5:00 CT. A third game, if needed, would be played on July 24th at a to-be-announced time. The state tournament in Tecumseh starts on August 1st, hosted by District 16. |
