Gladstone 11-12 Girls Win State Tournament Opener
 BOYNE CITY---The Gladstone Major Girls (age 11-12) got the state tournament off to a good start on Thursday, beating the District Eight champs from Charlevoix, 19-0.  Brittany Schwartz and Sydney Herioux each had two doubles, while Maddie Ahlgren added a triple and Jacinda Lippens contributed a double. Gladstone got some good defense, too, as Taylor Trudeau caught a line drive at third base in the third inning and threw to first base for a double play. Schwartz pitched the first two innings and Letteriello also threw two innings. Schwartz struck out four batters and Letteriello fanned two. Gladstone continues state tournament play Friday afternoon with a game against fellow Upper Peninsula opponent Portage Lake out of the Houghton-Hancock area.  |
