Escanaba Sr. Girls Roll To Sectional Championship
![]() ESCANABA---The Escanaba Senior Girls (age 15-16) scored early and often and rolled to a n Upper Peninsula sectional championship on Saturday, beating Keweenaw County, 23-0 and 14-1, at Lemmerand Park. The girls will play in the state tournament in New Boston, which is west of Detroit. We will post details about that tournament as they become available. SATURDAY'S DISTRICT TEN LITTLE LEAGUE SCORES 9-10 Boys Baseball District Escanaba 22, Munising 0 Tri-County 13, Gladstone 3 9-10 Girls Softball District Escanaba 5, Gladstone 2 10-11 Boys Baseball District Iron Mountain North 8, Schaffer 5 Norway 12, Kingsford 3 11-12 Boys Baseball District Gladstone 6, Norway 0 (see game notes below) 11-12 Girls Softball State Tournament Gladstone 11, Rochester Hills 0 (see story HERE ) 13-14 Girls Softball Districts Gladstone 16, Iron Mountain North 6 Escanaba 14, Kingsford 0 GLADSTONE MAJOR BOYS STAY ALIVE IN DISTRICTS The Gladstone Major Boys (age 11-12) eliminated Norway, 6-0, Saturday night in district tournament action at Iron Mountain's Barkle Field. Ian Schwalbach pitched all six innings for the shutout, using 82 pitches along the way. Peyton Fedell had a two-run double in the first inning to put Gladstone in front, and then, with the rain coming down, Justin Malmstead launched a two-run homer to make it 4-0 in the third inning. Fedell drove home another run later in the game as Gladstone advanced to the district championship round against Iron Mountain North. The first game is Sunday night at 7:00 ET. It will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. If Gladstone wins, they play again Monday night. |
