Escanaba Major Girls Earn Trip To Kalamazoo, 11-2
KINGSFORD---The Escanaba Major Little League All-Stars (age 11-12) won a district championship on Saturday, beating Kingsford, 11-2, at Lodal Park. After Kingsford scored two runs in the first inning to take the early lead, Escanaba scored five runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back, punching their ticket to the Major Softball State Tournament next weekend at Parchment LL near Kalamazoo. Erica Moore followed with a run-scoring triple, Lizzy Sliva smacked an RBI double, and Abby Hill contributed an RBI single. Escanaba tacked on unearned runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings to gradually pull away to the victory. Jordan Marenger added a two-run single for Escanaba in the fourth inning. Moore earned the victory in the circle, pitching all six innings, allowing three base hits and one walk. She struck out 12 batters. Sidney Tomzcak took the loss for Kingsford. Escanaba advances to the state tournament next weekend, with the first game set for 5:30 in the afternoon against the District Five champions.
