Escanaba Major Girls Get Wake-Up Call; Win Again
PARCHMENT, Mich,---The Escanaba Major Little League All-Stars (age 11-12) struggled to score for three innings before exploding to beat Tecumseh, 13-1, Saturday in downstate Parchment. The girls have won both games of the state tournament by the mercy rule. Escanaba led just 3-1 halfway through the game as the girls had trouble hitting the off-speed pitching of Jillian Clary. But the fourth inning was a fun one for Escanaba, as 13 batters came to the plate as eight runs scored. Carsyn Segorski had a two-run single during the rally, and McKayla Mott also had a two-run single. That hit was Mott's second RBI single of the game. Emily Moore had a triple and scored a run in that inning, and then when she came up for the second time in the rally, she had an RBI single. Erica Moore also had an RBI single. Emily Moore pitched the first three innings, and allowed one run (unearned) on one hit. She struck out four and walked one. Mott pitched the fourth inning, allowing a walk but no runs. Escanaba closes pool play Sunday afternoon with a 5:30 game against Beaverton. Then it's on to the state quarterfinals on Monday, against an opponent to be determined (time TBA). Monday's game is scheduled to be broadcast on WCHT-AM (600) and rrnsports.com. Click the thumbnails in the ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS box above to see game videos. |
