Delta County Jr. Girls Roll Into Michigan Final Four
JENISON, Mich.---It took a while to get going, but the Delta County Junior Girls (age 13-14) beat Boyne City, 13-0, in their final pool play game Saturday at the state tournament in downstate Jenison. Gabi Salo pitched a one-hitter, striking out ten batters, as the DC All-Stars won by the five-inning mercy rule for the fourth straight state tournament game. Delta County led just 2-0 after three innings, and Boyne City got its only hit of the game in the third inning and tried to steal a run. Dakota Cloutier put on the tag. The offense got going in the fourth and fifth innings, as the DC girls batted around in the fourth inning and scored eight runs. Three more runs came in during the fifth inning. Sydney Herioux had a single, triple, and drove in three runs. Jenna Tardiff was strong in the leadoff spot with a double, two singles, a walk, and two runs scored. Natalie Hansen had a double and a triple, and drove home two runs. Andi Balenger had a single, double, walk, and scored two runs. And Salo helped her own cause with a two-run single in the fourth inning.
