Escanaba Major Boys Win Third Straight At States
TECUMSEH, Mich.---The Escanaba Major Boys (age 11-12) won their third straight game at the state tournament on Monday, beating South Portage, 10-4, in downstate Tecumseh. Escanaba jumped to a 5-0 lead early in the game before the Kalamazoo team scored four times in the top of the fourth inning. But the Escanaba boys responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead, 7-4, and then scored three more times in the fifth inning to win, 10-4. Nick Rousseau was the winning pitcher for Escanaba on Monday. At the plate, Jayger LaMarch had three hits and drove in four runs. Nathan Howes was two-for-three with two RBI's. Scott Hiller added a home run, while Matt Zimmerman went two-for-two. Clayton Smith had a pair of runs batted in for Escanaba. The boys advanced out of pool play with a 3-0 record. Escanaba scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning on Saturday to rally past Marine City, 10-8, in the state tournament opener. Escanaba hit three home runs in the game. Escanaba then topped Muskegon Oakridge, 7-2, on Sunday, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. Escanaba advances to the state quarterfinals on Tuesday, with a game set for 1:30. |
