Iron Mountain-Norway Wins Junior Baseball Title
GLADSTONE---The Iron Mountain-Norway combined Junior Boys (age 13-14) baseball team won a district championship Sunday night, beating Gladstone, 11-8 (in eight innings) in the opener, and 8-1 in the nightcap.
The first game was the completition of a game that was suspended due to heavy rain and lightning on Saturday...and was delayed by rain for three more hours Sunday. In the first game, Noah Gorzinski was the winning pitcher, throwing all eight innings. Drake Forrest took the loss for Gladstone. Gladstone sent it to extra innings with a four-run bottom of the seventh inning as Forrest had a two-out, two-run double to tie it. But Iron Mountain/Norway got three runs in the top of the eighth on one hit, four walks, and a hit batter.
In the second game, Gladstone's only hit was a one out-single in the first inning by Cole Hansen. IM/N scored three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to blow it open.
Blake Julian threw 6 1/3 innings for the win. Gavin Berg took the loss for Gladstone. Iron Mountain/Norway will host a sectional starting on Friday. |
