MARQUETTE---The Gladstone High School baseball team got a little payback Thursday night as they beat the Marquette Redmen and their ace pitcher, 14-2, at Haley Field in Marquette. The Braves got revenge for an earlier loss to the Redmen in Gladstone in which they made seven errors, and the result throws the Great Northern Conference race further into question as Marquette lost its second conference game of the week to drop out of first place. Marquette pitcher Isaac Sarles had a great week earlier this month when he pitched the Redmen past both the Braves and Escanaba Eskymos to put the Redmen in first place. But he was hit hard on Thursday, and he got very little defensive help behind him, as four of the seven Gladstone runs he allowed were unearned. Noah Peterson went 3-for-3 at the plate for Gladstone with two doubles and a single. He scored three runs and drove in two. Isaac Ketchum contributed a 3-for-4 day at the plate, with the only out being a bullet that was caught at shortstop in his final at-bat. Ketchum drove in three runs on his three singles. Nate Young and Brennon Detiege both added two base hits. Darmogray threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one unearned run. Deitege threw the final 1 2.3 inning, giving up a solo home run to freshman A.J. Martin in the final inning. Gladstone improved to 13-4 on the season, and the Braves will head to Kingsley on Saturday for a game against Alpena, with a second game against either Gaylord or the host Stags. Marquette will host Negaunee in a doubleheader on Monday. In the junior varsity game on Thursday, Marquette beat Gladstone, 4-2, in a five-inning game. THURSDAY'S OTHER U.P. BASEBALL GAMES
