Marquette, Negaunee Baseball Pick Up DH Sweeps

MARQUETTE---The Marquette Redmen and Negaunee Miners both picked up doubleheader sweeps on Wednesday as four baseball games were played a few feet apart in Marquette. Click the above headline for details from both doubleheaders. (MSHS Baseball Photo)

MARQUETTE REDMEN SWEEP GWINN MODEL TOWNERS

The Marquette Redmen swept the new Gwinn Model Towners team, 17-0 and 16-1, on Wednesday, in Marquette. In the opener, Gibson Jezewski had two singles, a triple, and three runs batted in. Ian Sheltrow had a single, double, and three runs batted in. Logan Peterson added three hits from the leadoff position.

In the second game, Peterson had three more hits, giving him a 6-for-6 day at the plate. Sheltrow had three more hits, and Jezewski had two more hits. Easton Miller had a double in both games. Marquette is now 4-0 on the season after also sweeping two games last Saturday in Menominee. The Redmen will head down to Gaylord for a pair of games this Saturday.

NEGAUNEE MINERS SWEEP SUPERIOR CENTRAL COUGARS

Meanwhile, the Negaunee Miners swept the Superior Central Cougars, 11-0 and 13-7. Those games were played in Marquette because the Negaunee field isn't ready yet. In fact, those games were played on Marquette's main field at the same time the Redmen were playing Gwinn on the second field next door.

For the Redmen in the opener, Braiden Noskey and Ian Engstrom combined to pitch a four-inning no hitter and Noskey had a two run single at the plate. Noskey had two hits and two RBI in the nightcap as well, and Keith Judici added a two run single.

Some of the younger players contributed in that second game, as Aiden Steele had a two run single, Owen Cardinal had a two run double, and Carsen Belanger added a two-run hit. The Miners are now 2-1 on the season and will travel to Gladstone for a doubleheader on Thursday.
