TOUGH BATTLE: Eskymos One Goal Short In Sault
SAULT STE. MARIE---Garth Wickham lit the lamp for the 21st time this season, but the Escanaba Eskymos lost in Sault Ste. Marie, 2-1, Thursday night at Big Bear Arena. Wickham's power play goal came on a rebound with nine seconds left in the first period, and it held up until late in the second period, when the Blue Devils scored a power play goal of their own. The Soo goal by Tyler Feltus was on a five-on-three power man-advantage with 4:22 left in the second period. The Blue Devil winner came at the 1:08 mark of the third period when Darren Langendorf tipped one past Eskymo goalie Brodie Goddard. The Eskymos had their chances to get the equalizer, but they couldn't tally on a power play shortly after Langendorf's goal. Escanaba captain Chris LeMire had one last chance to tie the game when he ripped a shot at the final buzzer, but goalie Ryan Sanderson saved it. Sault High improved to 16-6-0 on the season. Escanaba fell to 11-12-0. The Eskymos close out the regular season next weekend with two games at the Hannahville Ice & Turf: against Calumet Friday night at 7:00, and against Hancock at 1:00. Both games will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600) and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. Next Friday's game will also be broadcast live on WGKL-FM (Kool 105.5). |
