ESCANABA---After sitting by idly for the first two weeks of 2017, the Escanaba High School hockey team got back into action Friday night. And the boys won't have much time off going forward. Escanaba opened a stretch of five games in seven days by beating Portage Central out of the Kalamazoo area, 6-1, at the North/South Hockey Showcase at Centre Ice in Traverse City. Eskymo captain Chris LeMire drew assists on both of Reinhart's goals. Defenseman Hayden Haslow also had an assist as Christer Carne closed the scoring late in the game. Wickham ended up with two goals and an assist, while Hayes had a goal and two helpers. Goaltender Brodie Goddard stopped 14 shots as Escanaba outshot the Mustangs, 35-15. Two other Upper Peninsula teams played here on Friday. The Marquette Redmen beat Grandville, 5-1, while the Kingsford Flivvers lost to Bay City Central, 2-1. On Saturday, Escanaba (7-6-0) faces that same Bay City Central team. The game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com, at 2:15 ET.
