Eskymos Open Wisconsin Tournament With Victory
WAUKESHA, Wis.---Five different players scored goals for the Escanaba Eskymos Monday night in a 6-3 win over the Brookfield (Wis.) Lancers in the first game of a six-team tournament at the Nagawaukee Ice Rink in suburban Milwaukee. Eskymo captain Chris LeMire scored just 27 seconds into the game to get his team going, and then closed things out with an empty-net goal late in the third period. Brookfield captain Joey Schindler tied the game late in the first period, and then Zach Davis scored on the power play early in the second period. But Colton Hayes scored a power play goal at the 4:31 mark of the second period, and then 30 seconds later, Scout Wunder tallied to put Escanaba in front. After Brookfield tied the game on an Eric Sinson power play goal, Christer Carne jammed one in during a scramble in front of the net to make it 4-3. Defenseman Reese Hubert scored with 1:19 left in the second period to make it 5-3, and it stayed that way until LeMire's empty-netter ended it with 35 seconds left in the game. Escanaba (3-6-0) outshot Brookfield, 27-22, with goalie Brodie Goddard making 19 stops. The Eskymos face Fond du Lac St. Mary's Springs Tuesday at 4:00 CT.
