Eskymos End 2016-17 Hockey Season With Awards
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos wrapped up their 2016-17 hockey season Tuesday night with their awards banquet at the House of Ludington. Escanaba finished the season with an 11-15-0 record, after losing to Marquette in the regional semifinals. The banquet was the final official team function for Eskymo seniors Garth Wickham, Chris LeMire, Paul Carne, Parker LaMarch, and Kyle Egner. Wickham, who led the team in scoring with 26 goals and 35 points, was named the team's Most Valuable Player, as well as the team's Offensive Player of the Year. LeMire, who was second on the team in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points, was given the Mikey D Character Award, and was the team's selection for the Hobey Baker Character Award. Carne was the team's top defenseman in terms of minutes played and was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. He also won the team's Academic Award. LaMarch and Egner shared the "Little I" award for team dedication. And Colton Hayes, who was the team's third-leading scorer, got the "Player of Tomorrow" award. ESKYMO JV AWARDS---This season was the first for junior varsity hockey in Escanaba, coached by former Eskymo Jake Eastin. The team's awards announced Tuesday night were: Jake Krutina (Offensive Player), Trevor Denome (Defensive Player), and Jake LaFave (Character). The JV team's Most Valuable Player was Noah Olsen. |
