The Norse never had the lead in the game, with the closest they came being at 7-5 when Escanaba graduate Colin Hudson knocked down a three-point basket, after West Iron County's Justin Nelson scored from inside the paint.
![]() A dunk by Ke'Varius Taylor got the MATC crowd going, and they went on a quick 8-0 run to put the Norse into a 15-5 hole. The Stormers had three dunks in the game.
“Milwaukee does that to you,” Bay College Coach Matt Johnson said. “They make you look a lot worse than you really are. They get you to play a way that you don't want to play, and take shots that you normally don't want to take.”
The Norse got a boost off the bench from Genesis Kemp, who scored a pair of baskets to bring Bay to within 17-12. That was as close as the Norse would get, however.
Hudson knocked down another triple, Joc Overstreet sank a three of his own, and Nelson had an “and-one” basket to keep the Norse in the game, But MATCgot 12 points from Shelton Williams-Dryden and the Stormers pulled into a 46-31 lead at halftime.
MATC (10-2) then started the second half on a big run and eventually put the Norse into a 25-point hole before Coach Randy Casey started substituting down the stretch.
“We got some good looks early on, I thought, that we didn't hit,” Johnson said. “Then we started pressing a little bit, forcing things, and taking some shots early that we shouldn't have. And then it snowballs. They're really, really good at it. Hats off to them. They were just an awful lot better than us tonight.”
![]() Lamar Grayson scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half, and he made all of his five free throws, to help the Norse hang in the game. Tyrel Creger and Jaylen Flaniken both had three baskets in the second half. Flaniken ended up with ten points and seven rebounds, wile Hudson chipped in with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
MATC out-rebounded Bay, 62-44. Norse was just 3-of-23 from three-point range.
“We need more, and we just flat out need to be better,” Johnson said. “And that's on me, and us as a (coaching) staff. We just didn't look like we were prepared for the intensity. Our practices have to become better. They need to be more intesne.”
Mikale Stevenson led. the Stormers with nine points, six rebounds, and 14 assists. Williams-Dryden had a game-high 22 points, Jermayn Baxter had ten points, and Mason Johnson chipped in 12 points and six rebounds. Richard Warren had ten rebounds.
