IRONWOOD---The Bay College Norse men's basketball team had six players score in double figures Saturday and dominated the Hibbing (Minn.) Community College Cardinals, 102-54, Saturday night at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood. ![]() A pass from Hudson to his older brother, Carter, resulted in a basket that put Bay in front, 12-7, and after Joc Overstreeet nailed a triple, Genesis Kemp got a half-court steal and cruised in for a slam dunk. That made it a 19-7 Norse lead, and completed a 13-2 Bay run to take control. The lead only grew from there. A mid-range jumper by Tyrel Creger made it 26-13, and then after a Hibbing basket, Parker Maki came off the bench for a driving scoop-shot basket. Colin Hudson would knock down a 14-foot jumper for his eighth point of the half, making it 30-17. Bay led, 37-25, at halftime, with Schuyler Pimenter contributing nine points for the Cardinals to keep Hibbing relatively-close. But the Norse blew it away in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals, 28-7, under a barrage of triples from Overstreet and a bunch of Baril Mawo baskets. ![]() Mawo made eight of his ten shots from the floor, again, all in the second half, for that game-high of 19 points. He also had eight rebounds in a career-high effort. Overstreet added five rebounds to go along with his six three-point baskets, adding up to 18 points. Nelson, playing just an hour away from his hometown of Iron River, ended up with 13 points and six rebunds, and made all three of his free throws. Colin Hudson and Kemp both had eleven points, and sophomore Jaylen Flaniken chipped in ten points and seven rebounds. Bay took advantage of its size advantage to outrebound Hibbing, 53-30, including a whopping 40-20 on defensive rebounds. The best statstic, perhaps, was 22 assists for the Norse offense, as the guys shared the ball well throughout the entire game. Pememtel led Hibbing (2-4) with 18 points and six rebounds.Ray Washington-Battle, Jr., chipped in ten points and five rebounds for the Cardinals. Bay College improved to 5-0 on the season. The Norse will face Vermillion (Minn.) College on Sunday at 12:00 noon ET/11 a.m. CT as the Gogebic Lindquist Classic continues. ![]() |
