Escanaba Eskymos Clean Up Top D1 Tennis Awards

MARQUETTE---The high school Division One All-UP girls tennis teams were announced on Wednesday, and the Escanaba Eskymos brought home top honors as well as the Upper Peninsula's only members on the statewide D-1 All-State team.
This is depsite the fact that the Negaunee Miners won the Upper Peninsula team championship last week, with Marquette second and Escanbaa third.
Nevertheless, Escanaba's Sophia Derkos was named the U.P. Player of the Year, as she went the entire season undefeated, and never lost a single set. She was also named to the All-State team.
The Escanaba doubles team of Delaney McIntyre and Natalie Williams were also named All-State after they lost just one match all season and won the U.P. Title.
