Indians Stay Alive With Win Over Copper Country
![]() GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Indians bounced back from an afternoon loss to Bark River with a nighttime 8-1 win over the Copper Country Flames to keep their state title defense alive. Tyson Seymour pitched a complete game, sending the Indians into Saturday's Upper Peninsula semifinal against Marquette. That game will be played in Escanaba. ![]() The game was tied 1-1 in the third inning when, with one out, Jared Crow smoked his second hard-hit single over the third base bag. And then Caden Alworden got his second hit of the game. Cody Frappier popped one up at the plate, but the catcher overran the ball, and it landed in foul ground. That gave Frappier another life, and he cashed in. Frappier smoked a long dive to left field, and it clanked off of the top of the fence, missing a home run by inches. He settled for a two-run double to make it 3-1, and then Zach Hanson added an RBI single with two out to bring Frappier in with the team's fourth run. Gladstone added two unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning, and then in the top of the seventh, Crow got his third hit of the game, bringing Hanson home. Hanson, in the #9 spot in the order, had two hits, a sacrifice fly, two RBI, and a walk. ![]() Alworden ended up getting on base all four times, with two walks and two hits. Pat Cortright had a double for Copper Country in the sixth inning. Carter Nettell had a single in the first inning, and Tanner Lane had a bunt single in the second inning. Carter Crouch threw the first three innings and took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits. Nettell tossed the final four innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Gladstone (20-5) takes on Marquette (24-11) in the U.P. semifinals Saturday at 12:00 in Escanaba. The game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600) and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. The other semifinal has Bark River taking on Sault Ste. Marie on Gladstone's field (after Bark River and Copper Country play a make-up game).
