Seymour Outduels Tharp; Indians Beat Menominee
![]() GLADSTONE---Tyson Seymour pitched a complete-game five-hitter to lead the Gladstone Indians to a 6-1 American Legion Baseball win over the Menominee Red Wave Wednesday in Gladstone. Bryce Tharp threw five solid innings for the Red Wave in a losing effort as last year's state finalists met for the final time in the regular season. Gladstone beat Menominee in last year's state championship team and the two teams will meet again in the first game of the U.P. Zone Five Tournament next Thursday. Seymour needed just 79 pitches to throw the complete game. He worked quickly through the first four innings, but gave up a two-out walk to Andrew Schroeder. Matt Delfosse followed with a solid run-scoring double to tie the game at 1-1. Tharp got into trouble in the fifth inning when Cooper Cavadeas ripped a two-out double, Ian Schwalbach got hit by a pitch, and Zach Hanson drew a walk. But with the bases loaded, Tharp got Braeden Lamberg to ground out, keeping the game tied. In the fifth inning, Seymour disposed of the Red Wave line-up in short order, then in the bottom of the inning, he led off with a base hit. Dan Martin followed with a bullet for a base hit, then Jared Crow got a single to load the bases with no outs. Caden Alworden was told to squeeze the run home, and he got the bunt down, bringing Seymour to the plate. The Indians got a bonus when Alworden was also safe at first, but got over-aggressive on the bases when Martin also tried to score and was tagged out at the plate. Seymour got into a jam in the top of sixth inning when Jake Rivard led off with a base hit and Alex Hanson followed with a single of his own to put two men on with no outs. Jesus Becerra bunted them both into scoring position, but Schroeder hit one right back to the mound and Seymour cut down the tying run at the plate. Delfosse then bounced out to end the inning, keeping Gladstone ahead, 2-1. Schroeder walked Cavadeas to start the inning. Schwalbach was hit by a pitch (again), then Hanson got a run-scoring hit. Lamberg put down a perfect bunt for another hit, loading the bases, and then Seymour drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home another run. |
