GB Hornets Sting Braves With Seventh Inning Rally
GREEN BAY---The Gladstone Braves had the lead all night long Monday in Green Bay, but the Preble Hornets rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun the Braves, 4-3, at Joannes Stadium. Hunter Garling pitched six strong innings for the Braves, but the Hornets stung reliever Justin Jurek for three runs in the seventh inning to steal the victory. "Hunter pitched a great game," Gladstone Manager Don Lauscher said. "He was in complete control. His fastball was good. His curveball was good." But Lauscher says he wanted to give Jurek a chance to pitch, more than a year after he suffered an elbow injury that has kept him off of the mound. Jurek threw one scoreless inning in a loss to Escanaba last week, but this time was different. "It was a great opportunity to try it, but it blew up in my face," Lauscher said. "They hit a couple of rockets off of him. It was a tough loss." Brody Bialkowski ripped a two-run triple to tie the game at 3-3, and then the Hornets won it on a two-out suicide squeeze by Andy Peterik. "We threw just a hair late to first base," Lauscher said. "We played good defense, too." Green Bay Preble improved to 13-4 on the season. Gladstone is now 17-8. The Braves travel to Negaunee for a doubleheader on Wednesday. Game time is 4:00. The games will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. |
