Escanaba Cubs Ousted After Losing Two Saturday
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Cubs started the day on Saturday with a 2-0 record in the Gregg Johnson/Al Erickson Memorial Tournament. But Manager Tom Ohman knew that his team's toughest games would come on Saturday as pool play continued. But he gave up a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning, and Lewis Ostrander allowed three more runs as DePere won its third game, 9-4. In the late game, the powerhouse Midland Berryhill team scored nine runs in the first inning and pounded the Cubs, 19-0, in a mercy-shortened game. Escanaba finishes the tournament with a 2-2 record, third place in Po0l A. Sunday's semifinals will pit Midland (4-0) against Kingsford (3-1) at 10:00 a.m. ET at Escanaba's Al Ness Field. And at the same time in Gladstone, Blissfield (4-0) will face DePere (3-1). The two winners will play for the championship at 1:00 in Escanaba.
