Gladstone Cruises Past Superior Central; Now 19-2
EBEN JUNCTION---The Gladstone Braves bounced back from Saturday's loss in Green Bay by posting a pair of mercy-rule wins over the Superior Central Cougars Monday afternoon in Alger County. The Braves scored nine runs in the first inning in the opener and cruised to a 15-0 victory in three innings. Christian Tackman had two base hits and four runs batted in, while Hunter Garling and Justin Jurek also had two hits. Tommy Bailey pitched all three innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and striking out four batters. In the second game, Superior Central scored three runs in the first inning as Gladstone Manager Don Lauscher played all of his substitutes. The Braves managed to tie the game in the second inning, and then scored eleven runs in the fourth inning to win, 14-3. Ben Schwalbach had two hits and drew a pair of walks for the Braves. He also drove in three runs. Brandon Cooper added two hits and two runs batted in. Drake Draze pitched all five innings for Gladstone, allowing three hits and walking two batters. Draze struck out four batters to earn his second pitching win. On Saturday, the Braves lost at Green Bay Notre Dame, 11-1. The game was called in the sixth inning when the Tritons scored five runs to turn a 6-1 game into a mercy-rule loss for Gladstone. Justin Jurek started the game on the mound, but left in the first inning with a sore arm. Sam Pouliot pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief before Tackman took over in the sixth inning. Pouliot had eight strikeouts. Gladstone (19-2) returns to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at home against the Houghton Gremlins. Game time is 4:00. The Braves are at Stephenson Thursday.
