Escanaba EMP Midgets Split Games In Manistique
This story was written by Jodi Westerberg MANISTIQUE---The Escanaba EMP Midget BB hockey team split a pair of CUP League games on Sunday, against the Manistique Midget BB hockey team.
EMP lost the first game 5 to 2.
In the first period, EMP's Justin VanDrese scored the first goal, by being in the perfect position, right off of the right corner of the net, with some solid teamwork by Noah Olsen and Zeke Strand.
In the second period, Manistique scored two quick goals, 7 seconds apart. Both goals were scored by Don Bowers Jr., assisted by Mackenzie Desjarden and Tyler Ziminski. EMP's Cody Vandermissen, answered back, a minute later, by scoring with a solid shot, unassisted. Manistique's Logan Savage scored next. At the end of the second period, it was Manistique 3, EMP 2.
In the third period, Nicholas Gould scored for Manistique. Manistique added another goal, assisted by Drew Savage, to wrap up the game. The final score was Manistique 5, EMP 2.
Aaron Young was the goalie for EMP.
EMP had 22 minutes of penalities in the game. Manistique had 18 minutes of penalties.
EMP won the second game 3 to 1.
Manistique got on the board first in the first period, with a goal scored by Bowers, assisted by Anthony Walters. EMP answered back with Aaron Young scoring a goal, from a smart play set-up by Christer Carne. Olsen scored next for EMP, with an assist from Zeke Strand. At the end of the second period, it was EMP 2, Manistique 1.
In the second period, Olsen fired a quick shot, from the left side of the boards, assisted from a long pass by Young,
No goals were scored by either team in the third period. EMP held on to their lead, to win the game 3 to 1.
Garrett Parlett was the goalie for EMP.
Both teams had 8 minutes of penalties in the game.
EMP is back in CUP League Action next Saturday at home against Ontonogan. Game times are Noon and 3 pm.
