EMP Midgets Drop Three Of Four Hockey Games

ESCANABA -
 The EMP Midget BB Hockey Team lost three out of four games in CUP League action this weekend at the Hannahville Ice & Turf in Wells.
 
On Saturday, EMP split with Marquette's Main St. Pizza, losing the first game 4 to 2, while bouncing back to pull out the win 4 to 3 the second game.
 
In the first game, Christer Carne scored both of EMP's goals, early on, in the first period. Helping set up Carne's first goal, with the assist, was Alex Valentine. Lucas Weinert had the assist on Carne's second goal. Marquette scored in the middle of the first period, with a goal by Ryan Houle, assisted by Joey Elmhurst.

At the end of the first period, it was EMP 2 to 1.
 
In the second period, Marquette tied it up 2 to 2, with Houle scoring his second goal of the game, unassisted. 
 
Marquette's Joey Elmhurst scored, unassisted, early on in the third period, making it 3 to 2.  Marquette took advantage of EMP's penalties, which left them shorthanded, the majority of the 3rd period. Holden Shaneburger's power play goal, assisted by Collin Fure, was enough for Marquette's 4 to 2 win over EMP. 
 
EMP goalie Garett Parlett had 32 saves. Marquette's goalie Kyle Michelson had 40 saves in the game. EMP had 38 minutes of penalties in the game. Marquette had 14 minutes of penalties in the game.
 
In the second game, EMP jumped out to a quick lead, by scoring the first two goals of the game, in the first period. Noah Olsen scored the first goal, with assists from Spencer Murray and Carne. Murray then scored the second goal, with an assist from Carne. 
 
Marquette's Ryan Houle scored a quick goal, just 22 seconds, into the second period, assisted by Fure. EMP answered back, with a goal scored by Justin VanDrese, assisted by Valentine. 
 
In the 3rd period, Anthony Moyle scored for Marquette, assisted by both Shaneburger and Fure, tying the game 3 to 3. EMP's Aaron Young fired the winning goal, assisted by both Olsen and Carne, making the final score 4 to 3 EMP over Marquette.
 
EMP goalie Parlett had 28 saves in the game. Marquette's goalie Michelson had 38 saves in the game. EMP had 10 minutes of penalties in the game. Marquette had 4 minutes of penalties in the game.
 
 EMP lost both of their games on Sunday to the Iron River Ice Hawks.
 
It was all Iron River for the first two periods.
 
In the first period, Tyler Morrison scored the first goal for Iron River, assisted by Miguel Padilla. Padilla scored next, assisted by Morrison and Pete Ropiak. CJ Sorensen scored Iron River's third goal, assisted by Neil Tomasoski, assisted by Ropiak.
 
Iron River added two more goals in the second period. Scoring the goals were Richard Lachapelle and Jeff Rahilly. Both goals were unassisted.
 
Four more goals were added by the Iron River team in the third period. Rahilly scored with Noah Rule getting the assist. Ropiak then scored, unassisted. Padilla scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Lee Hedtke. EMP got its lone goal from Zeke Strand, assisted by Young and Carne. Rahilly then scored his third goal of the game, a hattrick, assisted by Padilla. Iron River won 9 to 1 over EMP.
 
EMP goalie Parlett had 45 saves in the game. Iron River goalie Riley Pillion had 13 saves in the game. EMP had 24 minutes of penalties in the game. Iron River had 10 minutes of penalties in the game.
 
The second game was much of the same story.
 
Iron River opened up the scoring with two goals in the first period. Padilla scored first with an assist by Dakota Hawkes. Ropiak scored next for Iron River, assisted by Morrison and Padilla.
 
EMP scored first, in the second period, with their only goal scored by Carne, assisted by Young. Iron River added three more goals: Ropiak, assisted by Rahilly; Hawkes, assisted by Rule and Sorensen; Rahilly, assisted by Tomasoski and Hedtke. 
 
The Iron River team continued their dominant scoring over EMP, by adding another six goals during the third period. Ropiak scored his third goal (a hattrick), assisted by Tomasoski and Hedtke. Rahilly scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Morrison. Ropiak scored yet another goal, making it his fourth goal of the game, unassisted. Morrison scored, assisted by Rahilly. Rule scored next, with Hedtke getting his third assist of the game, (a playmaker). Hawkes scored his second goal of the game, with Hedtke getting his fourth assist of the game. Iron River won 11 to 1 over EMP.
 
EMP goalie Parlet had 38 saves in the game. Iron River goalie Pillion had 15 saves in the game. EMP had 8 minutes of penalties in the game. Iron River had 22 minutes of penalties in the game.
