EMP Midget BB Hockey Team Sweeps Manistique
ESCANABA - The Escanaba EMP Midget BB hockey team swept two games against Manistique State Savings Bank in CUP League action Sunday at the Hannahville Ice & Turf in Wells. EMP won the first game 4-1. The teams were scoreless after the first period of play. EMP's Cody Vandermissen got things rolling in the second period, by scoring the first goal, unassisted. The second goal was scored by Lucas Weinert, assisted by a solid pass from Christer Carne. In the third period, Noah Olsen scored, with the assist going to Weinert. Manistique then got on the board with a goal by Don Bowers, assisted by Jack Sanders. Olsen wrapped up the scoring, for EMP, by scoring his second goal of the game, assisted by Kyle Mattson. EMP goalie Garett Parlett had 18 saves in the game. Manistique's goalie Nikolas Lund had 37 saves in the game. EMP had two minutes of penalties in the game. Manistique had four minutes of penalties in the game. EMP won the second game, 6-1. Six different players scored goals for EMP in the second game. In the first period, Zeke Strand led the way, scoring the first goal for EMP, assisted by Olsen. Less than a minute later, Vandermissen scored, with an assist by Carne, making it 2-0, EMP, after the first period. EMP continued its solid scoring performance, by adding three more goals in the second period. Weinert scored with an assist by Jake LaFave. Carne scored next for EMP, with assists by Mattson and Strand. Aaron Young scored the fifth goal for EMP, with Olsen contributing his second assist of the game. Manistique then scored their only goal of the game with a nice shot by Bowers, assisted by Sanders and Nicholas Gould. To complete EMP's scoring in the third period, Justin VanDrese scored unassisted. Manistique skated both games with only nine players, including their goalie, due to four of their other players being unavailable to play because of injury or sickness. EMP goalie Parlett had 23 saves in the game, while Manistique's goalie Lund had 28 saves. Each team had six minutes of penalties in the game. EMP has a busy weekend next Saturday and Sunday with four home games - 2 games on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. against the Marquette Midget B team, and 2 games on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. against the Iron River Midget BB team. |
