Escanaba Bantams Win; EMP Midgets Salvage Tie

ESCANABA - The Escanaba Midget BB hockey team lost its first game against Marquette Togo's/Bjork & Zhulkie Midget BB hockey team, but came back and tied the second game, in CUP League action Sunday at the Hannaville Ice & Turf in Wells.

EMP lost the first game 6-3. EMP's Justin VanDrese scored first, assisted by Kyle Mattson. Marquette then scored two quick goals, within 45 seconds of each other, to temporarily take the lead. Eric Farley scored, assisted by Zachary Carter.

Then Carter scored, unassisted. Noah Olsen responded back, by adding two more goals for EMP, with assists going to Aaron Young, Kyle Mattson and Cody Vandermissen. Marquette answered back, to tie the game 3 to 3, at the end of the first period, with a goal scored by Hayden Tadgerson, assisted by Jaden Mattson.

In the second period, Marquette added three more goals, to complete their game scoring. Jaden Mattson contributed with two more goals, one goal was unassisted, the second goal assisted by Mitchell Barry. Bryant Holmgren scored, with assists by Jacob Humphrey and Mattson, his second assist of the game.

EMP goalie Garett had 32 saves in the game. Marquette's goalie Joshua Phillips had 21 saves in the game. EMP had four minutes of penalties in the game. Marquette had two minutes of penalties in the game.

EMP tied Marquette in the second game 2-2. The teams were scoreless after the first period.

Vandermissen led the way for EMP, by scoring first in the second period, unassisted. Marquette's Kyle Smith answered back by scoring their first goal, with Tadgerson and Holmgren assisting.

Jaden Mattson added another goal for Marquette, with assists by Tadgerson and Matthew Stanchina.

At the end of the second period, it was Marquette 2, EMP 1.

In the third period, EMP's Christer Carne tied up the game, with assists credited to Zach Versailles and Spencer Murray. The game ended in a 2 to 2 tie.

Both team's goalies, Parlett for EMP, and Phillips for Marquette, had 28 saves in the game.

EMP had 40 minutes of penalties in the game, with one being a game misconduct. Marquette had two minutes of penalties in the game.

EMP is back in CUP League action next Saturday on a road trip to Ontonagon.

ESCANABA PEE WEE'S WIN THREE---Escanaba Binks Coca-Cola PeeWee’s won its three games this weekend. Saturday's contest ended in two victories against Petoskey with the scores of 6-3 and 6-5. Kaydon Hayes had four goals and three assuists on the day while Nathan LaFave added a hat trick and plus an assist. Braden Roberts netted three goals with Nick Kolich adding two and Madsion Fulsher getting one. Braden Beaucahmp and Nick Martin each added one assist to finish out the scoring.

In Sunday's contest against St.Ignace, Binks rolled to a victory by the score of 11-0. Roberts ended the day with four goals while Kaydon Hayes and Kolich each netted a hat trick and two assists each. LaFave had one goal and Nick Martin aded an assist.
