Nightmare Two Minutes Costs Eskymos Road Win
![]() MEDFORD, Wis.----The Escanaba High School football team appeared to have the game won against the Medford Raiders Friday night in Wisconsin. The Eskymos had a five-point lead, and they had the ball, looking to run out the clock. But an ill-advised pass led to two minutes from hell, and the Eskymos lost to the Raiders, 44-35. Quarterback David Falish, who had led his team from behind with a pair of touchdowns in the second half, threw an interception deep in his own territory with 1:41 left in the game. Medford took advantage with a touchdown two plays later. Then, Falish drove his team to the Medford 29 yard-line in the final minute. But as he rolled out to pass, Falish was hit and fumbled the ball. It was scooped up and returned the other way for a 66-yard touchdown. Medford made a two-point play, and led, 44-35, with just 34 seconds left in the game. And that's the way the long road trip ended. Medford led, 30-21, in a high scoring first half. The Eskymo defense, just like in last week's upset win over Marquette, held the Raiders off of the scoreboard (until the very end). Escanaba (2-3) hosts Menominee (4-1) next Friday night. |
