Escanaba Football Holds Intrasquad Scrimmage
![]() ESCANABA----The Escanaba Eskymos have opened a new era in high school football as Jim Hansen has taken over as the new varsity coach. ![]()
The Esky boys strapped 'em on Friday.
"It's obviously an honor and a privilege," Hansen said. "There's been a lot of great coaches that have come through Escanaba, (but) there's only been 13 (head coaches) in our history and only three in the last 50 years." The team held its first annual "Orange and Black" intrasquad scrimmage Friday night under sunny and windy conditions at the Escanaba Athletic Field. "We've got guys who have been busting their butts all summer and during two-a-days (practices)," Hansen said. "They're doing a great job. So, what changes does Hansen expect to make this season? "It's going to be technique changes, not so much schemes or big, fancy X's-and-O's things," Hansen said. "It's bascically how we go about our business that needs to change." The Eskymos open their regular season on Friday, Aug. 24, at Alpena. The home opener is the following Thursday (Aug. 30) against Traverse City Central. Other home games this season are on Saturday (Sep. 8) against Belgium, Wis.; Sept. 28 against Menominee, Oct. 12 against Iron Mountain, and Oct. 19 against Kingsford. Road games are at Marquette, Medford, Wis., and Gladstone. Click the thumbnails in the "ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS" box to see more pictures from tyhe scrimmage, and to see more videos. ![]() |
