Double Zero: Esky Girls Blank Rapid River Twice
![]() RAPID RIVER---The Escanaba High School softball team got strong pitching performances from Katie Ross and Taylor Rathe and cruised to 4-0 and 10-0 victories over the Rapid River Rockets Wednesday in Rapid River. In the first game, the game was scoreless until the third inning. Emily Bruntgens singled, and Rathe was safe on a fielder's choice when the throw to second base was late. ![]() Then in the sixth inning, Claire McInerney ripped a solo home run to close the scoring. Ross got the pitching shutout. In the nightcap, Rathe mixed her pitches nicely and kept the Rockets off balance at the plate. Callie Heller had two extra base hits to bring in runs for the Eskymos. Escanaba improved to 11-1-1 on the season with the wins, while Rapid River fell to 7-4. The Eskymos travel to the Michigan Stars Tournament in Lower Michigan this weekend while the Rockets travel to a tournament in Marquette Friday and Saturday.
