TWO MORE WINS: Rapid River Sweeps Marquette
 RAPID RIVER---The Rapid River Rockets won two more games on Wednesday against a tough opponent: the Marquette Redettes. The Rockets kept their late-season roll going with 6-2 and 7-0 victories. Rapid River has now won seven of their last eight games, and all of the wins have comes against Division One or Two schools. The Rockets are Division Four. In Wednesday's twinbill opener, Hannah Kanyuh went five innings in the circle to earn the pitching win. She allowed three hits, no walks, and struck out four batters. Erika Schwartz threw the final two innings in relief, giving up four hits, and she struck out four. Lindsay Knuth drove in three runs with a double and a single. Dominique Pavlat had two hits and a run batted in as the Rockets collected eight base hits in the game. Aubrey Reynolds took the loss in the circle for Marquette. In the second game, Schwartz was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits but no walks in seven innings of work. She struck out seven Marquette batters. At the plate, Richelle Vandeville was on base four times with two hits and two walks. She drove in four. Shelby Lacosse had two hits and scored twice, Maddy Moss had two hits and scored three runs, and Kanyuh had two hits and an RBI. Rapid River got ten base hits off of Marquette pitching ace Chelsea Wiggins. Rapid River improved to 22-9 on the season. The Rockets are ranked fifth in the state in Division Four. Marquette fell to 23-6-1 after also losing two to Escanaba on Monday. |
