Bark River-Harris, Escanaba Post Upset Victories
![]() The Escanaba Eskymos ended their football season on a high note, while the Bark River-Harris Broncos picked up big momentum in Friday night's football action. Escanaba dominated Kingsford, 26-7, denying the Flivvers a shot at the playoffs. And BR-H got an 8-6 win over previously undefeated West Iron County as Hunter Messersmith scored the only touchdown, and sealed the deal with a fourth quarter interception. BR-H improved to 7-2 and will possibly host a state playoff game next weekend, while West Iron County's record fell to 8-1. Playoff pairings will be announced by the MHSAA Sunday night. Escanaba finished with a 3-6 record, with three of those losses coming by two points (Marquette) and by one point (Cheboygan and Sault Ste. Marie). Kingsford was holding onto faint playoff hopes, but fell to 4-5. Escanaba's defense contributed a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown, as well as forcing a fumble inside the five yard line. Logan Lamb had another big game on offense. Joe Hofer's touchdown run late in the game could not save the Flivvers from their first losing season since 1987. It was also Escanaba's first win over Kingsford since 1999. |
