HANDCUFFED: Eskymos Shut Down In Wisconsin
![]() PESHTIGO, Wis.---The Escanaba High School baseball team began a three-game roadtrip on Friday with a 6-1 loss to the Peshtigo Bulldogs in Wisconsin. The Eskymos hit the ball hard, but the Bulldogs made several outstanding defensive plays to win for the eleventh time in their last twelve games. Escanaba's only run came on a bunt single by Tyler Lawson in the fourth inning, with a throwing error on that play. ![]() Three of the runs in that inning were unearned, after first baseman Johnny Schlevogt missed Willette's pick-off throw, allowing a runner to score from third. Later, a wild pitch on a swinging strike three helped Peshtigo. Mitch Ahrans, Jake Gordon, and Darren Dionne had RBI singles in that inning. It looked like the Eskymos would take the led in the second inning when Schlenvogt's fly ball eluded the left fielder and Jake LaFave popped a fly ball that landed for a single. Then Craig Kamin smoked one toward right field that was snared just above the ground by Peshtigo first baseman Brandon Eick. LaFave had nowehere to go, and was doubled off of first base. Kamin was also robbed later in the game on a shoestring catch by Peshtigo center fielder Trevor Bloch. ![]() Willette pitched three innings, allowing four runs (one earned). Josh Bruntjens tossed the final three innings, giving up a two-run sungle to Riley Reif in the sixth inning. Escanaba beat Peshtigo, 12-10 and 18-1, earlier this season in Escanaba. But the Bulldogs threw three better pitchers this time, and they improved to 15-4 on the season. Escanaba fell to 13-5. The Eskymos take on the Ashwaubenon Jaguars on Saturday in a doubleheader. Game time is 12:00 ET. The games will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
