Gladstone To Play Basketball In Mid Pen And GNC
![]() GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Braves are rejoining the Great Northern Conference...for basketball only. The Braves will also play in the Mid Peninsula Conference, starting in the 2017-2018 school year. The Braves will play their normal schedule this season. "It works out perfect," said Gladstone Athletic Director Andy Jacques. "Esky brought it up to us, and we considered it. We talked with all the (GNC) AD's, and it's gonna work out perfect. It gives us 20 games. And it's gonna allow the GNC teams to be able to have one more conference game." The Braves will play twelve games against the other six Mid Peninsula Conference teams, and eight against the GNC teams. The move was approved by the Great Northern's athletic directors during a meeting last Friday. Gladstone will not compete in the GNC in other sports after this season. While playing ball in both leages will give Gladstone a guaranteed 20 games, it will end the practice of playing local Delta County teams. The Braves have played Mid Peninsula, Big Bay deNoc, and Rapid River over the past few seasons. Those teams will need to find new opponents.
