Four U.P. Wrestlers Stay Alive At Palace; 15 Ousted

AUBURN HILLS, Mich.---Four Upper Peninsula high school wrestlers shook off earlier losses and stayed alive with wins Friday afternoon in the consolation brackets of the MHSAA Individual State Finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills.  Gwinn's Kevin Roberts also stayed alive Friday. They will all wrestle Saturday morning, and could finish as high as third place in their respective weight classes. Six U.P. wrestlers lost for the second time on the weekend Friday afternoom and were eliminated. In all, there were 21 U.P. wrestlers involved in the tournament when it began. Nine of them were eliminated with losses both Thursday night and Friday morning. There was one All-U.P. match-up Friday afternoon, as Gwinn's Roberts faced off with Bark River-Harris's Tyler Labadie at 189 pounds. Roberts won on a 7-3 decision. Manistique's Tanner Gonzalez and Iron Mountain's Aaron Bolo wrestled in the semifinals Friday night. See the results and photos from those two matches HERE .
