Two dozen high school cross country teams converged on the Beauchamp Farm on Thursday for the Gladstone Invitational. It was a tune-up for the Upper Peninsula Finals, which will be held on this same Delta County course on October 24th.

The Upper Peninsula's best girls tennis players were announced on Tuesday as the Coaches Association named its All-U.P. and All-State teams. Negaunee's Angela Ring and Kingsford's Katy Hicks were named U.P. Players of the Year, and All-Staters, in singles.

The Menominee High School girls volleyball won two tight games to break a 1-1 tie and beat the Gladstone Braves, 3-1, Monday night in Menominee. It was the Maroons' second win over the Braves this season. The scores were 25-12, 24-26, 26-24, 25-22.

The Northern Michigan University football team stopped a two-point conversion attempt in the final seconds and beat Saginaw Valley State, 36-34, Saturday at the Superior Dome.
