H.S. Baseball All-State Teams Contain Few Yoopers
LANSING---The Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association has released its All-State teams for the 2013 season. The coaches announced the First and Second Team at every position. Unlike softball, there are no "honorable mention" selections. There were no Upper Peninsula boys picked to either All-State teams in Divisions One, Two or Three. But there were several U.P. boys chosen in Division Four. Newberry pitcher Jagger McCudden was picked to the D-4 All-State First Team, and Rudyard infielder Brady VanSloten was also chosen to the First Team. Norway pitcher John Grayvold, Jr. (pictured above), was a Second Team All-State selection for a second straight year. On the mound, Grayvold was 8-0 with a 1.24 ERA this season. At the plate, he had a .500 batting average with a 1.327 OPS. Also, Rudyard's Luke Steikar was picked to the D-4 All-State Second Team.
Christian Groleau was named All-Region.
Groleau won all eight of his pitching decisions during the Braves' inaugural season of high school baseball. Braves sophomore catcher Justin Jurek was an All-District selection in Division Three. In Division Two, five Escanaba Eskymos were picked to the All-District Team. Infielders Bailey Lamb and Nick Vandermissen, pitchers Devin Olsen and Ben Kleiman, and freshman outfielder Brandon Punzel were all honored in the voting. And Lamb was an All-Region selection in Division Two. Also, Norway's Austin Grayvold was selected to the Division Four All-District and All-Regional Teams. |
