PAYBACK: Norse Women Routed By Mid-Michigan

PLEASANT---The Bay College Norse women's basketball team had its 17-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night, as the Mid Michigan Lakers, 90-55, in Mt. Pleasant. The Norse end up in a tie for first place in the MCCAA North Conference standings with Mid Michigan, and with each team winning once against each other, tiebreakers are needed to determine the conference champion. Mid-Michigan, with a better overall record (27-1 vs 21-8) gets the tiebreaker, and will host the state championship this weekend. Mid Michigan made that official Thursday night with a 40-point win over North Central Michigan in a make-up game, closing the regular season with a victory. Both Bay and Mid Michigan finish the MCCAA conference season wih 13-1 records. All is not lost for Bay, however. The Norse will host Grand Rapids Community College next Tuesday night in Escanaba, with the winner of that game advancing to the NJCAA Regional Tournament in Flint. Tuesday's game starts at 7:00 and will be broadcast on Maverick 106.3, and on-line through the AUDIO link at www.baynorse.com. In Tuesday's game, Mid Michigan was dominant from start-to-finish. Caitlyn Walter came out firing from behind the three-point arch, making five triples and ending up with 19 points. And on the iside, Terre'ya Moore was tough, making seven of her nine shots and scoring 15 points. The Norse were led by Ashlee Burchette's 21 points, although that was on 7-of-20 shootin from the field. Siend Lingle added eleven points in defeat. The Norse committed 27 turnovers in the loss, and Bay was outrebounded, 36-28. |
