Hanson threw a complete-game no-hitter as Escanaba posted a 7-0 victory. Hanson threw 102 pitches, three shy of the maximum allowed, and struck out 16 batters, leaving only five outs for the Eskymo fielders. Hanson, a Central Michigan University recruit, walked two batters. He also hit a batter, and one other reached on an error in the first inning. The only time the Jets had two men on was the first inning, when a walk and an error gave NCA a scoring chance before Hanson ended the inning with a strikeout. In the bottom of the inning, the Eskymos scored on a Trent Lawson RBI single, but stranded the bases loaded. In the third inning, Hanson helped his own cause by bunting home Bon LaChance with the Eskymos' second run. In the fourth inning, Lawson also squeezed home a run for the Eskymos, making it 5-0, and Adam Willette had a pinch hit RBI single in the sixth. Escanaba improved to 8-5 on the season, in the middle of a grueling schedule that started with a single game at home Wednesday against Kingsford, followed by back-to-back doubleheaders Thursday and Friday against Negaunee and Sault Ste. Marie. Sunday is an off-day, but the Eskymos are back at it Monday with a road trip to Marquette, and a Wednesday road trip to Negaunee. And the Eskymos will visit Gladstone on Friday. |
