Mother Nature did not cooperate with most high school sporting events Thursday night as heavy rains rolled through the Upper Peninsula.

Some games managed to get started, but most did not finish.

ESCANABA vs MENOMINEE BASEBALL---They managed to play two innings in Escanaba, with the Eskymos leading the Maroons, 1-0, on a Chase Cloutier RBI single. Adam Willette gave up base hits to Austin Malke and Brody Waara to start the game, but got a strikeout to end that first inning. Lightning was detected in the second inning, and after waiting nearly an hour, the game was called as the heavy rains finally arrived.

ESCANABA at KINGSFORD SOFTBALL---Rained out as the girls arrived in Kingsford.

GLADSTONE at IRON MOUNTAIN BASEBALL---Rained out as flash floods hit Dickinson County.

GLADSTONE at NEGAUNEE SOFTBALL---The Miners get a 3-0 win in the first of a secheduled doubleheader as rains fell, ending the first game after five innings.

BARK RIVER-HARRIS vs NORTH CENTRAL BASEBALL--They managed to play three innings in Bark River, and the Jets got an 11-1 win asAlex Naser, Adrian Mercier, and Bradey Anderson all had three hits and two RBI for NCA. Naser also scored three runs. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled.

ESCANABA TENNIS AT WESTWOOD/NEGAUNEE---Escanaba defeated Westwood, 8-0, in a match that started at 1:00. The next match saw Negaunee leading 4-3, and the final match of the day was in the second set (with Escanaba leading) when the rains came.
