MARQUETTE---Former Northern Michigan quarterback Keith Nelsen recently established and endowed a football scholarship. The Nelsen Football Scholarship will provide financial support to a Wildcat on the active roster who graduated from a Wisconsin high school.
"We have a great program with a strong history and great alumni," said head coach Chris Ostrowsky. "Keith has stepped up and given his dollars in support, and we thank him. He is a great Wildcat who clearly wants to see us forge ahead and rise up again."
Added Director of Athletics Forrest Karr: "Keith's gift will free up resources that will be used to directly improve the current football program. We want to thank Keith and all donors who have come before him to create endowments and funds like the Nelsen Football Scholarship that give back to the program for which they played."
Nelsen played for Northern Michigan from 1982 to 1985. He holds the Wildcat record for touchdown passes in a game (6) and served as captain as a senior. He earned a degree in Finance at Northern Michigan and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
Nelsen is currently Best Buy's Vice President, Operations & General Council. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association and the Gridiron Society.
