POWERS---The North Central Jets scored 44 points in the first quarter and rolled to a 79-0 win over the Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers in eight-man football Saturday afternoon in Powers.
The game was shortened by the mercy rule, as both teams agreed ahead of time to start the running clock after the first quarter, rather than in the second half.
Bobby Kleiman came back from his bout with mono by scoring the team's first two touchdowns. The first was on a 47-yard run, and the second came on a pitch that covered 37 yards.
Dylan Gagne made it 22-0 with a ten-yard touchdown run, then Tyler Bentley broke free for a 70-yard touchdown scamper for NCA's fourth score.
All-Stater Jason Whitens came up with a defensive "pick-six" interception that he returned for a 30-yard touchdown, then Gagne rolled into the end zone again for a 54-yard touchdown. Marcus Krachinski jad a pair of two-point runs. The Jets led, 44-0, after the first quarter, and 57-0 at halftime.
It was the home opener for the Jets after they played their first three games on the road. The Jets stay at home next Friday night with a game against the Baraga Vikings. Game time is 6:00 CT. It will be broadcast live on WUPF-FM (Eagle 107.3), starting at 5:30 p.m. CT.
