Former Escanaba High School and Northern Michigan University football standout Jace Daniels has been re-signed by the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Daniels was cut from the Bucs' practice squad in September and had returned to Marquette and was roofing houses before getting the call Tuesday to return to Tampa.

Former Northern Michigan University goaltender Jared Coreau will be on the bench Wednesday when the Detroit Red Wings open the NHL season against the Buffalo Sabres. Coreau had been sent down to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, but on Monday, he was called up. Coreau will back up starting goaltender Jimmy Howard. Escanaba native John Barnes was hired Friday as the new women's basketball head coach at Youngstown State University, a NCAA Division I school located in eastern Ohio.
