The MHSAA Division One UP Finals were held Wednesday, and the Escanaba Eskymos cruised to the to the girls championship at the Sweetgrass Golf Course. The Eskymos beat second place Marquette by 17 strokes, 382-399. Eskymo junior Kamrie Scott won her second straight UP championship by shooting an 8-over par 80. Menominee’s Lexi Marineau was runner up after shooting a 90. Escanaba’s Dani Hughes finished third with a 93. It’s the third UP championship in four years for Escanaba.
The Marquette Sentinels edged the Escanaba Eskymos to win the MHSAA Division One boys UP championship on Wednesday at the Sage Run Golf Course. The Sentinels won by eleven strokes (311-322), to repeat as UP Champions. Junior Boden Moore shot a two-under 70 to win medalist honors. Westwood senior Tanner Annala was runner-up, finishing three strokes back with a 73, and Iron Mountain’s Cooper Pigeon was third with a 77. The North Central Jets won their third championship in four years on Wednesday at the Escanaba Country Club behind the surprise performance from sophomore Nathan Pipkorn, who fired a 76 to win medalist honors. It was six strokes better than his previous best score of the season. Mid Peninsula freshman Christian VanDamme was runner-up after shooting an 81. NCA won the team score with a 343. Lake Limden-Hubbell was second with 353.
