The Forest Park Trojans volleyball team took on the best the Upper Peninsula had to offer, on Saturday, and stayed undfeated against U.P. teams by beating the Kingsford Flivvers, Marquette Sentinels, and Calumet Copper Kings in the “Clash of the Divisions” tournament hosted by Kingsford High School.
The Michigan Tech football team turned the ball over five times in the first half as No. 1 Ferris State winning its 21st consecutive game, in a 38-10 decision at Kearly Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Ferris State saw their three-game shutout streak come to an end as Michigan Tech produced a 32-yard field goal from sophomore kicker Avery Kucharski, and Tech quarterback Elliott Larner recorded his second career touchdown.
The Northern Michigan volleyball team ended the Midwest Region Crossover in dominant fashion, earning a sweep over the Ashland Eagles 25-19, 25-21, and 25-13, with the match only lasting just over an hour in total time. The Northern Michigan hockey team held a 1-0 lead halfway through the third period on Friday night at the Berry Events Center, but a late goal and another in overtime from the Colorado College Tigers gave them the 2-1 edge over the Wildcats. Getting his second straight start in net, freshman goaltender Oliver Auyeung-Ashton was stellar, turning aside 43 of the 45 shots he faced for a .956 save percentage. The Northern Michigan volleyball team faced tough competition at the Midwest Region Crossover on Friday, falling to both Findlay of the G-MAC and Quincy of the GLVC in straight sets. Marie, Ontario is pleased to announce that LSSU’s NCAA Division I men’s hockey team will host the 2nd Superior Ice Showdown on January 23, 2026. A week full of nostalgia and celebration wrapped up Saturday night at Northern Michigan University as the 1975 national championship football team was honored. The highlight was the retirement of Steve Mariucci's jersey, the Iron Mountain native who was the quarterback of that team and went on to play and coach in the NFL. The Gladstone High School football team fell behind the Houghton Gremlins, 14-0, but rallied to post a 34-22 win Friday night at the Marble Athletic Field. A 41-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass from Vinny Rebholz to Aiden Burie on the last play of the second quarter turned the game around, giving the Braves their first lead and Gladstone dominated from there. The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team took down the reigning GLIAC Champions and 2024 NCAA Elite Eight team 1-0 Friday afternoon in Marquette. The Wildcats (4-2-3, 3-2-0 GLIAC) took a full three points off of the No. 17 Cardinals (5-1-3, 4-1-0 GLIAC), something no team this season has yet been able to do. The Central Collegiate Hockey Association has announced its Players of the Week on Monday and NMU's William Gramme earned the Goaltender of the Week award. Gramme, earning his first CCHA Goaltender of the Week honor, posted a .947 save percentage over the weekend, stopping 107-of-113 shots for the Wildcats in a season-opening series at No. 15 Massachusetts. In a marathon contest lasting more than three and a half hours, the Northern Michigan football team fell 47-25 to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at Wickes Stadium. Though the Wildcats outscored SVSU 22-14 in the second half, a 26-point second quarter from the home team proved too much to overcome. NMU found the end zone three times, but it was not enough.
The Escanaba High School Gym was full of spikes and digs on Saturday as the annual Elks Invitational was held on a hot, humid day. Ten teams played four pool matches, and the top four teams advanced to the semifinals. The Menominee High School football team scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back Friday night, blowing out the Gladstone Braves, 61-6, on Maroons Homecoming at Blesch Stadium. Senior quarterback Tanner Theuerkauf threw three touchdown passes, all of them to fellow senior Landen Daigneau, to help the Maroons jump to a 27-0 lead before the first quarter was over.

The Northern Michigan volleyball team picked up its third straight victory, and first on the road this season, by outlasting Saginaw Valley State in a five-set battle on Friday night. West Iron County is used to competing for Upper Peninsula tennis titles. Going into Wednesday’s Division 2 Finals, the Wykons had finished first or second 31 times at the season-concluding event. The Wykons won their 14th championship after finishing runner-up three of the previous four years. They won five of the eight flights in Kingsford to finish ahead of Norway, which won the other three flights, and Ishpeming. Both finished five points behind West Iron, tied for second place. Another Upper Peninsula high school football team has forfeited a game because of a lack of healthy boys to field a team. The Westwood Patriots announced on Wednesday that it will not be able to play the Negaunee Miners this Friday night. The game was going to be Negaunee's homecoming game.
The NMU men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the defending GLIAC champions, the Roosevelt Lakers, Sunday in suburban Chicago. The Wildcats (2-2-3, 1-2-0 GLIAC) lost its first game on the road this season, as they found themselves in the midst of a physical game. The teams combined for 37 fouls and eight yellow cards, with seven of the bookings going against the Wildcats.
Bay Cross Country Team travelled to the MCCAA Northern Conference Meet hosted by North Central Michigan College. Bay's Women's Team put two runners in the All-Conference as well as All-Freshman Team while the Men's Team had three runners qualify for All-Conference and one runner as All-Freshman.
Owen Gereau scored four touchdowns and Trevor Thorbahn added two scores as the Gladstone Braves overcame a great first half by Westwood quarterback Ethan Marta to beat the Patriots, 59-22, Friday night, at Westwood High School.
