ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School volleyball team opened the MHSAA Division Two district tournament Monday night with a 3-0 win over the Gladstone Braves.
The scores were 25-20, 25-12, and 27-25.
Escanaba was in control from nearly start to finish, but in the third set, with Escanaba ahead, 16-6, Eskymo Coach Bev Ziebell chose to bring in many of her bench players.
Gladstone took advantage with a rally, eventually taking a 25-24 lead, before the Eskymos captured the next three points to end the match. Ziebell says her younger players deserved to get onto the home court in what will likely be the final home appearance of the season for the Eskymos
Escanaba travels to Negaunee for the district semifinals Wednesday night.
